Student Opt Out Forms
Student Survey Opt out: Throughout the year, there are several surveys administered by school. These surveys are sometimes required by the RI Department of Education, and to collect student input on other initiatives within the school department. If parents/guardians would like to opt their child out of all surveys administered to the student by the school, please complete the FAIR form. Please note that parents/guardians must complete one form for each child they wish to opt out of the materials. Parents/Guardians can only opt their child out if they are listed as Primary Contact for the child in Aspen.
Instructional Materials Opt out: The 2025 US Supreme Court case Mahmoud v. Taylor ruling requires school districts to provide parents and guardians with notice about lessons involving LGBTQ+ inclusive materials and to allow them to opt their children out of those lessons based on religious objections. If you wish to receive these notices with the opportunity to opt-out, please complete the FAIR form. Please note that parents/guardians must complete one form for each child they wish to opt out of the materials. Parents/Guardians should ONLY complete this form if they wish to receive opt-out notifications. Parents/Guardians can only opt their child out if they are listed as Primary Contact for the child in Aspen.
Health Opt Out:
The NKHS Physical Education and Health department teaches a comprehensive course in Grade 10 which includes family life, sexual abstinence, pregnancy and childbirth, sexually transmitted diseases, sexuality and gender, gender stereotypes, HIV/AIDS, sexual violence and consent.
Per R.I. Gen. Laws § 16-22-18 (Health and family life courses) and R.I. Gen. Laws s § 16-22-17 (AIDS education program), a parent or legal guardian may exempt his or her child from the program by written directive to the principal of the school.
You have the right to exempt your child from the teaching of the aforementioned topics fill out the the FAIR form in Aspen.
