About Us
North Kingstown High School students are required to earn three science credits and submit three proficient science CCA assignments as a graduation requirement. The sequence of courses is designed to offer students a well-rounded exposure to the different science disciplines of earth and space sciences, life sciences, and physical sciences.
All Science classes at NKHS are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and will prepare the students to take the Next Generation Science Assessment (NGSA) in their junior year. College preparatory courses emphasize the conceptual content of the course with some mathematical reasoning involved. Honors courses go more in depth in content and utilize a higher level of mathematical reasoning than college preparatory courses.
There are two established science pathways at NKHS: College preparatory (CP) and honors (HON). Ninth grade students must be recommended for either the honors pathway. To meet the Academy of Engineering program requirements, students enrolled in the Engineering CTE will take "Physics for Engineering" in lieu of "Introduction to Earth & Physical Science".
