Ms. Elizabeth Parvo-Brown
A - CR and Information Technology CTE Students
A Masters of Education in Counseling from Providence College, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Science from Rhode Island College, and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Eckerd College makes Ms. Parvo-Brown uniquely qualified to serve as a teacher in North Kingstown Senior High School's Science department.
Before joining NKHS in 2001, Ms. Parvo-Brown taught earth science, college preparatory biology, and general physical science at Mount Hope High School in Bristol, Rhode Island where she assumed full curriculum responsibility, from design to deployment. After joining North Kingstown High School, she taught 9th grade earth science and biology.
Ms. Parvo-Brown is noted for her commitment to collaboration which is reflected in her work with peer departments, students, and student support services such as the high school's Success Academy. Her commitment to community is equally strong where she serves as both manager and member of Rhode Island Women's Soccer League, the Newport Spinnakers, and has served as North Kingstown Girls Varsity Assistant Coach, North Kingstown Girls Junior Varsity Softball Coach, and Rogers High School Girls Junior Varsity Soccer Coach in Newport, Rhode Island where she currently resides.
Ms. Mia Toro
Guidance Department Chair
A guidance counselor since 2013 at North Kingstown Senior High School, Mrs. Toro began her career in education as a mathematics teacher in the school's mathematics department during the 2000 - 2001 school year. Her philosophy in education, complimented by her many years in the classroom, is targeted towards every students' success, and her passion is to serve as the advocate for students in achieving that success as they navigate through high school in preparation for life and career. Mrs. Toro is a 1996 graduate of South Kingstown High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Secondary Education Certification in 2000 from Keene State College in New Hampshire, and in 2008, earned a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Rhode Island College. She currently resides in Charlestown with her husband and three young children.
Ms. Erin Ward
Es - Han and Engineering CTE Students
Ms. Ward has been a Guidance Counselor at North Kingstown High School since 2005, addressing quality of student life issues at all secondary grade levels while satisfying student academic needs. She is uniquely qualified for her current position having earned a B.A. degree in Sociology from Clemson University in 1998, a M.Ed. in School Counseling from James Madison University, and an Education Specialist degree from that same university in 2004.
Ms. Ward’s academic training is coupled with a wide range of professional experiences acquired in the field of social and clinical services where she supported individual families and their communities. After receiving her bachelor's degree, she worked at the Key Program in Providence, Rhode Island as an Outreach and Tracking Case Manager. While earning her master's degree, Ms. Ward worked as the interim school counselor at Elkton Middle School in Elkton, Virginia, and later, for several years at The Kent Center in Warwick, Rhode Island as an outpatient clinician in their Children’s Intensive Services and Children and Adolescent Intensive Treatment Services programs, Here she worked with youths and their families providing individual, group, and family counseling.
Ms. Ward is a proud resident of North Kingstown, with her husband, Jeremy, and their young children.
Mrs. Barbara-Jean Mancini
Ms. Mancini began her teaching career in Yuma, AZ where she taught: English and Dance. After living in other locations and most notably working as an entertainer on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, she returned home. She began her career in the North Kingstown School Department as a dance/drama teacher at the elementary school level. She has also taught English at NK High School and in the Alternative Learning Program. Most recently, she has been a school counselor at Davisville Middle School. She holds two BA’s from Rhode Island College: Secondary English and Theatre, an MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University and an MA from Rhode Island College in School Counseling. She is also a member of the Actor’s Equity Association/AFTRA and the Screen Actors Guild.
